Learning the Poetic Techniques

Below are some tools to help you learn the poetic techniques in your glossary.
  1. The first is a simple matching game. The idea of the game is to drag the terms onto their definitions. If you can beat the existing "high score," either print a screenshot of your results or show me the screen for two dark blue merit certificates.
  2. The game is part of the Quizlet application. You will need to join Quizlet in order to benefit from all its features. From your Quizlet dashboard you can study the glossary in flashcard format, complete tests of your knowledge of the terms, and access another game which utilises the list of terms. You can also print the terms and definitions either in list format or in flashcard format.

Steps to Joining Quizlet and Finding the Flashcard set:
1. Go to: www.quizlet.com
2. Sign up using the button in the top right hand corner.
3. You are to use your first name, following by numbers if necessary, as your username. If you share a first name with other people in the class, please at the first letter of your surname so I can distinguish between you. Once you have completed your sign-up, go to "My Groups" and click on "Search"
4. Use the search string "Year 10 English" and click "Go"
5. In the search results, on the right hand side you are given a list of groups that fit your search criteria. Click on the first, and only, result there.
6. You will be asked for a password to join the group. The password is the first name of the poet we are studying for this unit.
7. At the moment, we're looking at the first set "Poetic Techniques." How you use the features is up to you and depends on your proficiency with poetic techniques. However, I will require at least TWO test scores over the course of the unit so I do recommend that you look at that feature.

The application DOES NOT automatically collect your scores or results when you study the flashcards or play the games. Only YOU will know if YOU are not getting 100% so it is up to YOU to work on those terms that give you trouble.
